Lewis defeated Simon Whitlock 8-5 in his last Premier League outing |
World champion Adrian Lewis is confident that he will reach the Premier League play-offs at Wembley. Lewis, from Stoke-on-Trent, is fourth in the table and faces Terry Jenkins in Bournemouth on Thursday, before ending the campaign against Gary Anderson. "I think I've got a good draw," said the 26-year-old. "It's the best run-in out of the players fighting for fourth. "I think Raymond van Barneveld has done enough to qualify alongside Phil Taylor and Gary and I'll take fourth place." Lewis' closest challengers for the final play-off spot, James Wade and Simon Whitlock, both have to play Taylor before the end of the group stages. Only leg difference separates Lewis and fifth-placed Wade, while Whitlock lies a point behind them in sixth. On Thursday, 2009 Premier League winner Wade has the daunting task of trying to end Taylor's winning run, which stretches back 11 matches. A draw for van Barneveld against Anderson will be enough to secure qualification for the five-time world champion from the Netherlands, while Whitlock takes on bottom-of-the-table Mark Webster. The final round of group matches will be played in Newcastle on 12 May, with the semi-finals, third-place play-off and final all taking place at Wembley seven days later.
