Taylor defeated James Wade in the final of the Premier League in 2010 |
Phil Taylor defeated James Wade 8-1 in Brighton to secure a sixth straight win in the Premier League group stage. Taylor, 50, is two points clear at the top of the Premier League table after a convincing win over 2009 champion Wade. "I knew James was under pressure because he's bottom of the table," said Taylor. "I'm delighted with the win." Raymond van Barneveld remains second in the table after a 8-5 victory over Gary Anderson, while world champion Adrian Lewis drew 7-7 with Terry Jenkins. Simon Whitlock beat Mark Webster 8-2 in the night's other game. Taylor and Van Barneveld appear to be close to their best form ahead of their meeting in Cardiff on 31 March. "I'm really enjoying it at the moment and I'm excited about playing Raymond because I love playing him and he's in fantastic form," added Taylor. Five-time world champion Van Barneveld, meanwhile, believes his victory over Anderson on Thursday will give him great confidence ahead of his match against the world number one. "I gave the first leg away, but at 2-0 down Gary missed some crucial shots and let me in," he said. "He didn't get going with his scoring and I'm happy with the win. "I've won five games out of seven and I'm looking forward to the second half of the season."
