Thomas was a gold medallist in the 2008 world championship team pursuit |
Olympic gold medallist Geraint Thomas is to compete in the Lincoln Grand Prix cycle race on Sunday. Thomas, 22, was a member of the Great Britain men's team pursuit quartet which won gold in Beijing in 2008. Race organiser Mike Griffin told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "Geraint wasn't selected for the Tour of Italy so he asked us if he could ride here. "Although 88 miles is very different to 4,000m, he's proved himself on the road and I'm sure he'll do well." Thomas, from Cardiff, was ruled out of the Tour of Italy which starts on 9 May because of injury. He fractured his pelvis and broke his nose after crashing in a time trial during the Tirreno-Adriatico race in Italy in March.
