Former Chesterfield players David Reeves and Steve Blatherwick have confirmed they are interested in taking over from Lee Richardson at Saltergate.
The duo are on the coaching staff at Blue Square North side Gainsborough and assistant boss Reeves knows they lack the experience of other candidates.
He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We'd love an interview if truth be known. It would be great to go back.
"We'd probably bring someone we know with loads of experience."
Chesterfield are without a manager after opting not to renew Richardson's contract last week.
