Ben Fisher's late try ensured Rovers progressed

Hull KR survived a late Sheffield fightback to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup.

Rovers took a 22-6 half-time lead with tries from Jake Webster, Stanley Gene, Fisher and Clint Newton, with Menzie Yere touching down for the visitors.

But scores from Sam Barlow and Johnny Woodcock reduced the gap to 22-18.

Shaun Briscoe put Rovers further ahead, but a 70th-minute Kyle Woods' score set up a tense finale settled in the last minute with a Ben Fisher try.

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan:
"I did not think we played with a great deal of intelligence.

"I thought we were motivated during the week but just did not come out and execute as well as we can.

"But as I have always said in cup games mission one is to win and we did that."

Sheffield Eagles coach Mark Aston:
"I thought the commitment of the boys was outstanding and it took until 79 minutes for Rovers to make the game safe.

"The boys dug in and I think they did themselves proud - and that includes the youngsters like Sam Barlow.

"There is nothing better than playing a big team and Rovers are the form team in Super League at the moment.

"Now we can move on. We outscored Rovers in the second half and we just have to put it together consistently."
