 Mapley and Walden fought it out for first place |
John Mapley beat close competition to secure the Tour of Guernsey 2008 with a second-placed finish in the final race of the week-long event on Sunday. Mapley was the overall leader ahead of Ben Walden as the riders went into the seventh event. Mapley and Walden were in the lead group until, with three laps to go, Walden pulled away. Mapley was unable to catch him but hung onto second place to retain his lead and take the overall title.
