McLaughlin broke away on the final lap

James McLaughlin won the Guernsey Velo Club's Liberation Day Road Race in a record time on 9 May.

McLaughlin waited in the leading group for his chance to attack in the five and three quarters lap race around the L'Eree circuit.

In the final climb the youngster broke away from the group to pull out a lead over the other riders which he held for the final lap to take the victory.

McLaughlin's 01:51:51 took nine seconds off the previous Junior Record.
