Emanuele Sella of Italy claimed his first major career win in the 11th stage of the Giro d'Italia. The 23-year-old Panaria rider, in his first season as a professional, won in five hours and 19 minutes after a long solo breakaway.
Cristian Moreni was second in the 228km Porto Sant'Elpidio to Cesena stage with Swiss rider Steve Zampieri third.
Saeco team rider and current race leader Damiano Cunego of Italy retained the pink jersey.
"I can't believe it, I have no words," Sella shouted after crossing the finish line.
"Perhaps I attacked too early, but I did it, I made it to the finish," said Sella, who burst into tears as he was congratulated by officials and team-mates.
