Malcolm De Sousa wins British bowls title

Bowls

Jersey's Malcolm de Sousa has claimed his debut British title after beating Ireland's Gary Kelly to take the Junior singles title in County Durham.

After leading by just two shots at the 17th end, the 19-year old stormed through to win 21-13.

Earlier, de Sousa had beaten both the English junior champion Chris Moore and Ross Owen from Wales

The Jersey ladies pair of Helen and Lindsey Greechan also reached the final, but lost 26-7 to Scotland.

The Greechans were ten shots adrift to Julie Sword and Lyn Stein early on, and only won four ends.

The Jersey-based players are part of a joint Channel Islands team in the Championships, with Guernsey, under the same banner, contesting the other seven disciplines.
