Devon's Ian Bond has been crowned the World Matchplay Champion after beating Jason Greenslade by two sets to one in the final. Bond overcame number three seed Greenslade 9-5, 5-6, 2-0 to win the Matchplay title, at his first appearance at the event in Sheffield. The 37-year-old from Exeter's Exonia Club, overcame Mark Royal 9-3 8-4 in the semi-finals. In the first round at Ponds Forge, Bond beat number one seed Meryvn King. The new champion said: "Bond is back, it's always nice to win a title." The Devon star has also earnt a place at the 2010 Premier League Bowls in Cyprus, which begins in September.
