Guernsey's Alison Merrien beat "hot favourite" Ceri-Ann Davies |
Guernsey's Alison Merrien has beaten reigning champion Ceri-Ann Davies in the quarter-finals of the World Indoor Bowls Tour Championships. Merrien won 11-6, 9-1 in one hour and 40 minutes to book her place in the semi-finals of the tournament. She had described her opponent, who had already won the mixed pairs event, as the "hot favourite" for the title. Merrien will face either England's Carol Ashby or Scotland's Claire Johnston in Tuesday's semi-final. Earlier Merrien failed to progress in the World Mixed Matchplay event. She teamed up with England's Andy Thomson but the pair were comprehensively beaten 9-3, 12-3 in just under 90 minutes by Alex Marshall and Debbie Stavrou.
