Merrien has won world titles indoors and outdoors

Former world champion bowler Alison Merrien has been made a life member of the Bowls Guernsey Association.

Merrien, who has won the World Indoor and World Outdoor Champion of Champions titles, is the first person ever to be given the honour.

"We thought it would be a nice touch to put Alison up there and say 'you're the first life member'," chief executive Garry Collins told BBC Guernsey.

"Hopefully in the years to come a few more will added to the list."

There is even a financial advantage to the honour.

"It exempts her from paying her �2 membership a year," Collins noted.
