New coach Paul James has brought in six new signings in a month |
Chairman Roger Clarke has praised those who kept Worcester Wolves alive as they prepare to resume playing this weekend. Wolves were given December off to overhaul their squad after head coach Chuck Evans resigned and six players were axed for refusing to play. Clarke said: "The most memorable thing has been the attitude and commitment shown by key people within the club. "We still have a great deal of work to do and in Paul James we have a leader who has already had a positive affect." Former England and Guildford Heat head coach Paul James took up the challenge to try and resurrect a Wolves season that was on the verge of collapse. His predecessor Evans left the club following allegations of improper comments made during a team meeting and six players had their contracts cancelled when they refused to play in protest. | We still have aspirations to make the play-offs when many other sports clubs might have collapsed Worcester Wolves chairman Roger Clarke |
The new-look Wolves squad has been assembled following a search that took them to the United Sates, Lithuania and Bulgaria. Clarke says the new head coach deserves a lot of credit for the work he has put in to ensure the club can be competitive over the second half of the season. "The passion and drive from the newly appointed coach means the Wolves are now ready to return to the court," he said. "Because of this we still have aspirations to make the play-offs when many other sports clubs might have collapsed. "Just four weeks on and the Wolves are able to send out a team to compete in the top flight of British basketball." Wolves host London Capital at University of Worcester on Saturday at 1900 GMT.
