Worcester lose coach and players

Basketball

Worcester Wolves face a crisis after head coach Chuck Evans resigned and six players had their contracts cancelled.

In a statement club owner Roger Clarke said the players had left after taking unauthorised strike action.

He said: "We were left with no alternative but to terminate the contracts of players who refused to play for the Wolves.

"Coach Evans decided in the best interests of the club he would resign with immediate effect."

The club has confirmed the issue arose following a dispute between the players and Evans over comments made during a post-match analysis session.

The departed players have not yet been named.

A formal investigation was carried out by the club into the dispute and action taken in accordance with BBL regulations.

Mr Clarke said: "It has been a very difficult week but the club is now in talks with the BBL and hopes to turn out a full squad as soon as possible."

The Wolves have confirmed they plan to fulfil their BBL fixture at Glasgow Rocks on Sunday, 29 November but they will be fielding a weakened team.

Of the regular first-team players only Harry Disy is expected to feature at the Kelvin Hall with the Wolves relying on second-teamers to make up the rest of the squad.

The tip-off at Glasgow will be at 1700 GMT.
