New Worcester Wolves coach Paul James has started his squad rebuilding by signing guard forward Danny Gilbert and point guard Rod Middleton.

Gilbert played for Guildford Heat last term after time in the US and Germany.

James told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "As soon as I knew I was going to be head coach at Worcester the first player I contacted was Daniel Gilbert.

"Rod is a great floor leader who likes to fast-break and who has the ability to break down defences."

After a successful college career in the US, Gilbert turned professional with FC Schalke in Germany.

On his arrival in the UK, Gilbert signed for Guildford Heat who were in only their second year of existence.

He became a pivotal player in leading the club to its first ever league championship in the BBL as he averaged an impressive 16.85 points in 33.85 minutes per game.

James said: "I recruited Daniel to the Guildford Heat outfit and he has proved to be one of the most talented all round players I have ever worked with.

"He is an exceptional defender and can score in many ways so Daniel was a very valuable piece of the Heat successful jigsaw.

"I am very excited about working with him once again."

Middleton's professional career saw him play in both the German Pro A League for MBC and for Clermont in the French Pro A.

"Rod is a good defender who takes pride in his defence," said James.

"He has a great work ethic and plays hard on both ends of the court for the entire game.

"Rod will be a great addition to the Wolves team because he brings commitment, passion and a winning attitude.

"He is a team player whose only goal is to win and be successful."

Wolves are rebuilding the squad following the departure of former coach Chuck Evans and six members of the playing squad following an internal dispute.

After being given permission to postpone their scheduled fixtures for December, they are due to resume their BBL programme on Sunday, 3 January when they will travel to Sheffield Sharks.
