Kim Ashton and Lindsey Woodward in action against Guernsey |
Jersey's badminton team started their inter-counties season with a 9-6 win over Guernsey at the New Gilson Hall. The scores were level going into the final three mixed doubles matches before Jersey went on to win them all. The scoreline could have been much different had Bridget Podger not torn a calf muscle. The Guernsey veteran had to forfeit two doubles matches as a result of her injury, while Jersey had to make two last-minute changes to their line-up. Debutant Ulrick Neilson forfeited his first match when it was discovered the he was ineligible to play because his residency in Jersey was not yet long enough while Gavin Carter was forced to withdraw at short notice. Jersey will have to travel to Guernsey for the return match, but all their other fixtures, against Mid Glamorgan, Devon and Somerset will be played in the UK.
