World champion next for Skinner

Ben Skinner
Skinner won his round one clash in the Maldives

Ben Skinner is through to the second round of the 2009 Oxbow World Longboard Tour at Pasta Point on Chaaya Island in the Maldives.

Jersey-born Skinner defeated Alexis Deniel of France in the first round.

He now faces the prospect of world champion Bonga Perkins from Hawaii in tomorrow's second round, but Skinner said he's not worried about the clash.

Skinner told BBC Jersey: "I have actually beaten him more times than he's beaten me."

"It's going to be tough, but it's going to be a good heat and I think in the back of his [Perkins'] head he know's I could beat him."

Skinner, who grew up in Jersey, won the 2009 European longboard title earlier this month.

Round One Result

1st Ben Skinner (GBR) 15.OOp, Win by 3.7O

2nd Alexis Deniel (FRA) 11.3Op, Needs 8.45
