Speller happy despite French win

David Speller
Speller lost both his heats in Quiberon

Jersey surfer David Speller was part of a British team that lost 9-3 to France in the Anglo-French Challenge.

In heavy 6ft surf at Quiberon on the west coast of Brittany, Speller lost both his heats in the event.

Leading his first heat on Saturday, Speller was unlucky to lose when his French opponent pulled into a massive barrel to win on the last wave.

It did not get any better on Sunday when Speller was outclassed and found the conditions difficult.

Despite the losses Speller told BBC Jersey: "I was stoked to be invited and represent GB, the level was really high and it was great to watch Pierre Luis Costes who is current world number three."
