Ross Juniors were among the medals at Dorney Lake. |
Ross Rowing Club's junior academy made a bright start to the new season, Amy Surman and Ellie Grindle winning at the Marlow spring head at Dorney Lake. The duo rowed in the WJ14 category, a year above their age group. And Ross coach Robin Fletcher sees it as an encouraging pointer for the new season. "This was a terrific row," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester. "Amy and Ellie have developed terrific boat speed. "We know we can develop this further in training over the next two months." The girls won the event by a clear 30 seconds beating most of the WJ15 crews and many other more experienced and older combinations. | We are very proud of Megan's performance and clearly illustrates what can be achieved with hard work and perseverance |
The women's J15 squad all rowed in single sculls over the Olympic course, the top result going to Kelly Morris who finished third in a highly competitive field. New junior academy member Megan Jepthcote recently represented the Ross Club in the Scottish National indoor rowing championships in Edinburgh. Megan's long journey was rewarded with a bronze medal as she produced a personal best distance. Junior captain John Lewis said it had been an impressive effort by one of the club's newer recruits. "We are very proud of Megan's performance and clearly illustrates what can be achieved with hard work and perseverance," he said. Senior rower Mike Jones returned to winning ways in the Swansea Head in which he beat competition from Bridgnorth and Monmouth over the 2300m course.
