The Sarnians fightback was not enough as Jersey won 13-11 |
An impressive fightback by Guernsey's pool champions was not enough as Jersey took the annual Pool Upton match 13-11 at the Happy Landings on Friday. The visitors stormed ahead 8-1 in the best of 25 frame contest and were later 11-4 up, needing only two more. But the Sarnians came back to 12-11 before Jersey captain Carlos Rodriguez beat Alan Opie in a nervy frame. "I was pleased the two teams put on a show but relieved to seal the match in the penultimate frame," Rodriguez said. The night was also the sport's annual presentation night with a special award going to the Guernsey Kart Club for taking part in the island's pool league in every one of its thirty-five seasons. More than a dozen current and ex-players collected a special trophy. John Dean, who played for the club for more than twenty-five years, said: "I'm proud to be part of a unique team."
