Kirk and De La Haye faced off in a repeat of the 2007 final |
Jess De La Haye took Guernsey's Junior Island Pool Championship for the fourth year in a row after beating James Kirk in Sunday's event. World number two Dream Team member De La Haye met the European number six Kirk in a rematch of last year's final. De La Haye fought back from 8-6 down to claim victory in a winner-takes-all 17th frame. Media Officer Trevor Kirk: "This was finest nail-biting final seen in Guernsey at any level for a long time." Kirk was only one frame from victory and lifting the trophy for the first time in his pool career. 15 Juniors took part in the championship |
But a mistake from him allowed De La Haye to come back and level the scores at 8-8. In the final frame, Kirk was down to his last red when De La Haye had four yellows remaining. His controlled shot saw the white come off of the side rail into the centre table ready to take the black, although the red went full table only to fall a few millimetres short of going in its intended far corner pocket. De La Haye came back to the table knowing he could not afford to miss and maintained his composure to claim victory.
