De la Haye and De Carteret met in the final |
Jess de la Haye became Guernsey's youngest ever men's Island Pool Champion when he beat Craig de Carteret 11-5 in the final on Saturday. In doing so De la Haye became not only the youngest ever champion, but also the first to hold both senior and junior titles simultaneously. Pool media officer Trevor Kirk said: "This will surely be a record which will stand for a very long time. "Both players were displaying pool mastery to highest degree," he added. The preliminary round saw Ashley Perriam fall to the highly-fancied Mick Le Noury 5-4. And there was a shock result when reigning CI international junior champion James Kirk was beaten 5-4 by unknown Richard Sutton. There were no more shocks in the following rounds as Craig de Carteret progressed to the final by coming back from 6-3 down to beat Stan Lester 9-7. The reigning junior Guernsey and Channel Island champion Jess de le Haye convincingly beat Le Noury 9-4 to book his place in the final.
