Wills, Godfrey and Terry won the MCC Cup at Lord's last year

Twelve archers are still in the running to be named in the British team for the Beijing Olympics after coming through the first of three qualifying rounds.

Michael Paert won the men's event with Larry Godfrey, Tom Barber, Alan Wills and Simon Needham making the top five.

Naomi Folkard, Alison Williamson, Lana Needham, Charlotte Burgess and Emma Downie were the top five women.

Olympic bronze medallist Simon Terry and Philippa Lowe were selected as wildcards for the second round in June.

Three men and three women will be chosen to represent Britain in the individual and team events in Beijing in August.

More than 100 British archers competed in the first selection event at Lilleshall over the Easter weekend, with the top five men and women being guaranteed a place in the second round.

Head coach Peter Suk then selected Terry, who finished sixth, and Lowe as his personal recommendations to go through to the next stage.

Terry, who won two bronzes at the Barcelona Games in 1992 as an 18-year-old, gave up the sport for 11 years and only returned to international competition two years ago.

Team GB performance manager Barry Eley said: "He was a slow starter at this shoot-off, but soon found his rhythm, and once we go outdoors, as we will be doing for the final two rounds of this qualification process, then I've little doubt that Simon will be in formidable form."

The second round will take place at Lilleshall at the start of June and the third round at the same venue in mid-June.
