Newry hopefuls St Colman's and Abbey CBS were both dumped out of the Bank of Ireland MacRory Cup on Saturday morning.

St Mary's Magherafelt caused a surprise by defeating St Colman's Newry 3-5 to 1-6 at Sarsfields.

There was an even bigger shock at Dundalk where Abbey lost 1-9 to 0-8 against Patrician Carrickmacross.

In the afternoon quarter-finals St Pat's Maghera hit two injury-time points to earn a 0-8 to 1-5 draw against Omagh CBS while holders St Michael's Enniskillen defeated St Macartan's Monaghan 1-8 to 0-5.

The semi-final draw, made after Saturday's quarter-finals, has pitted St Michael's Enniskillen against St Mary Magherafelt while Omagh or Maghera will tackle Patrician Carrickmacross.

Paul Kielt hit two of Magherafelt's goals while Murtagh O'Brien notched the south Derry school's other three-pointer in the Sarsfields game.

Magherafelt's victory ended a run of defeats at the quarter-finals stage of the competition.

They have not got beyond the last eight since reaching the final in 1996.

Magherafelt led 2-2 to 0-4 at the interval with O'Brien and Kielt having notched early goals for the Derry school.

Colman's were badly missing Eoin McCartan who was ruled out of the game after being injured in the Ulster Colleges Allstar trial.

A Francis Downey goal early in the second half helped bring Colman's to within a point of Magherafelt at 2-4 to 1-6.

However, a superb point by substitute Kevin Gormley extended the St Mary's lead again.

Magherafelt's third goal was caused by a goalkeeping error in injury-time with Michael Finnegan allowing Kielt's tame effort to slip through his grasp.

At Dundalk, Gary McEneaney's ninth minute penalty helped Patrician Carrickmacross edge out Abbey CBS by four points.

Abbey, having played with the wind, led 0-6 to 1-1 at the interval.

However, Patrician took control in the second period with Stephen Gallogly contributing five points.

The Carrickmacross school won another penalty but McEneaney decided to tap the ball over the bar for a point.

At Casement Park, injury-time points from Brendan Mullan and Charlie Kielt earned St Pat's Maghera a draw against Omagh CBS.

Joe Ball hit Omagh's goal in the second minute which helped the Tyrone school to a 1-4 to 0-5 interval lead.

Maghera camogie win

Maghera fought back to level midway through the second half only for Omagh to edge two clear at the end of normal time.

However, Maghera showed great character to hit the two injury-time points.

Kevin Gallagher's first half goal helped St Michael's Enniskillen ease past St MacCartan's 1-8 to 0-5.

St Michael's led 1-5 to 0-1 at the interval and were never really troubled.

Meanwhile, St Pat's Maghera won a record ninth Ulster Colleges Camogie title by beating neighbours St Mary's Magherafelt 2-4 to 2-2 on Saturday morning.
