Bank of Ireland MacRory Cup Final: Omagh CBS 1-5 1-12 St Michael's Enniskillen

St Michael's Enniskillen proved far too good for a disappointing Omagh CBS outfit in Monday's Bank of Ireland MacRory Cup final at Casement Park.

The big occasion appeared to get to the majority of the Omagh players.

Only midfielder Mark Donnelly and captain Joe McMahon played to their potential in the decider.

In contrast, St Michael's big name players all delivered.

Midfielder James Sherry produced a magnificent hour which included scoring three points.

Ciaran O'Reilly was also outstanding and his 49th minute goal effectively settled the match after Omagh had improved somewhat following a dismal first half display.

St Michael's captain Ryan Keenan also shrugged off an ankle injury to produce a tremendous hour.

Omagh had plenty of possession in the opening 15 minutes but some poor shooting, in particular from the luckless Joe McCarroll, meant that they didn't notch a score until 26th minute which left them 0-4 to 0-1 in arrears.

Several of McCarroll's opportunites were difficult but the series of misses seemed to deflate Omagh confidence.

Enniskillen midfielder James Sherry hit two points in the closing five minutes of the first period which left St Michael's 0-7 to 0-1 ahead at the break.

After a nervous opening from both sides, Shane O'Brien had notched the first score of the match with a long-range point for Enniskillen in the 14th minute.

Enniskillen bossed the second quarter and they could have been even further ahead at the break as Michael Cunningham had notched a point when well-placed to shoot a goal.

Even though they were against the wind in the second period, Omagh to their credit did manage to rally after half-time.

Ciaran Shields' 33rd minute goal reduced Omagh's lead to 0-8 to 1-1.

Omagh's Joe McCarroll finally got on the scoresheet in the 36th minute to cut Enniskillen's advantage to three points but that was as good as it got for the Tyrone school.

St Michael's responded with four unanswered points to move seven clear again.

Omagh's last chance came when Ciaran Shields had a goal chance in the 47th minute but he was bottled up by the St Michael's defence and the opportunity was lost.

Two minutes later, Ciaran O'Reilly waltzed through the Omagh defence to hit Enniskillen's goal.

That killed off the game and while Omagh did hit three unanswered points in the closing stages, Enniskillen fans were already celebrating their team's triumph.

Omagh CBS: E McCloskey, B McGill, D Carlin, S Coyle, N Bradley, E O'Gara, M McKenna, J McMahon (0-1), J McPeake, J McCarroll (0-2), J Ball (0-1), C Shields (1-0), M Donnelly (0-1), C Nicholas.

MacLarnon Cup final: St Columb's Derry 2-7 2-6 La Salle Belfast

St Columb's Derry edged out La Salle Belfast by a point to claim the Bank of Ireland MacLarnon Cup in Monday's curtain-raiser at Casement Park.

St Columb's led 0-5 to 0-2 at half-time but a 50th minute goal by Karl Stewart put La Salle into a 1-5 to 0-7 advantage.

That was the first of four goals in the closing 10 minutes.

La Salle goalkeeper Stephen Harbison hauled down Gavin Donaghy in the 51st minute and Paul O'Hea confidently hit home the penalty.

Donaghy himself scored St Columb's second goal in the 59th minute only for Stephen McIlwaine to reply immediately with a three-pointer for La Salle.

Terry O'Neill hit a further point in injury-time for La Salle but it wasn't enough to prevent a St Columb's victory.
