Stoke Potters secured the last remaining qualifying place after the final round of league fixtures |
Stoke Potters have been drawn against Workington Comets in the quarter-finals of the Young Shield. The Potters qualified for the competition with a 12th-place league finish and face a Comets squad which ended the regular season in sixth. The first leg will be at Loomer Road on Saturday, 2 October with the return meeting in Cumbria the next day. "I feel we have a really good chance of beating the Comets," Potters promoter Dave Tattum told BBC Radio Stoke. The Young Shield is contested by the teams who finish between fifth and 12th in the Premier League table. The Potters beat Glasgow to the final qualifying spot by four points after the Scottish side were beaten by Rye House in the final round of league fixtures. Despite the fact that the Comets finished the season 14 points better off than the Potters, narrowly missing out on a place in the promotion play-offs, Tattum remains confident. "They will be a difficult couple of matches but we have some confidence in the side now and hopefully we can take a lead from our home meeting up to Derwent Park for the second leg," he said.
