Swindon have closed in on the Elite League play-off places after extending their unbeaten run to six. The Robins beat Eastbourne 50-43 on Thursday night at the Abbey Stadium to move within a point of the top four. Swindon's Simon Stead and Leigh Adams secured maximum points with a dramatic 4-2 in the final heat. "To get that sort of spectacle of speedway racing in heat 15 is testimony to this team and this club," manager Ronnie Russell told BBC Wiltshire. Stead pulled off a last bend overtaking manoeuvre to beat Eastbourne's Tomasz Jedrzejak with Adams holding third in front of Matej Zagar. "What's more incredible is that Simon was advised by the doctors not to ride tonight," added Russell. "He's got an eye infection and could only see out of one eye." Swindon remain fifth in the Elite League table but just one point behind fourth placed Peterborough.
