An improving Birmingham line-up wasted a good start at Newport, losing 50-40 in the Premier Trophy. The Brummies were level at 24-24 with seven heats remaining in South Wales after a series of race wins from Jason Lyons and Ludvig Lindgren. Richard Sweetman's exclusion in heat eight for bringing down Chris Kerr handed the initiative to Newport, led by veteran Brent Werner. Lyons top scored for Birmingham with 12 points, Lindgren adding eight.
