Taylor stars in Brummies victory

Birmingham Brummies put an end to their five-match losing run with a thrilling 47-43 Premier Trophy South win over Somerset Rebels at Perry Barr.

Robert Ksiezak put in his best display of the season for the Brummies, scoring a series of wins in his 11 points.

But the real hero was 18-year old reserve Ben Taylor who held off former Australian international Steve Johnston to set up victory.

Birmingham missed out on a three-point win as Johnston won his last two races.

Taylor's heroics had allowed the Brummies to open up an eight-point lead which would have secured three points, until Johnston rallied.

Brummies boss Graham Drury told BBC WM: "I'm pleased for the fans that we've got the win under our belt.

It just proves the ability Ben Taylor's got. He brought the house down

"We haven't had the rub of the green this season but maybe our luck has changed."

Drury was also full of praise for youngster Taylor who clocked up eight points for the Brummies in earning only their second win in eight league matches this season.

"I have to be honest I didn't give us much of a chance in that heat," added Drury. "But it just proves the ability Taylor's got. He brought the house down."

Birmingham travel to Newport on Sunday for their next Premier Trophy match (26 April, 1430 BST).
