Birmingham have made a disappointing start to the season |
Birmingham have replaced Polish veteran Marek Mroz with youngster Daniel Halsey after a poor start to the season. Halsey, 20, arrives on loan from Rye House after back-to-back Premier Trophy defeats at Somerset and Stoke. "We looked at his scores and he scored six points on his visits to Perry Barr," said Brummies boss Graham Drury. "I still think Marek can become a five-point Premier League rider, but he doesn't have the machinery and he is also not fit enough." Aylesbury-born Halsey narrowly missed out on a place in the British under-21 final last week and was a Premier League regular with Rye House throughout the 2008 season. The Brummies went close to a Trophy win in Saturday's meeting at Stoke - narrowly missing out 48-45. Skipper Jason Lyons top-scored with 15 points, Tomasz Piszcz added 11 and Robert Ksiezak got six. Birmingham had slipped to a 52-43 defeat at Somerset the previous night, despite a 13-point haul for Lyons and 10 for Piszcz. Somerset are the visitors to Perry Barr on Wednesday night, a meeting that will see Halsey make his debut.
