Brummies missed out after a heat 13 crash involving Piszcz and Watson |
Birmingham Brummies suffered a heart-breaking two-point aggregate defeat to Berwick Bandits in the quarter-final of the Young Shield. Defending an eight-point advantage from the home leg, the Brummies fell to a 50-40 loss in Cumbria. The key was a crash in heat 13 involving Birmingham duo Tomasz Piszcz and Craig Watson, the re-run seeing Berwick tie the aggregate scores. A victory for Brummies skipper Jason Lyons in the final heat was not enough. Lyons led all scoring with 14 points, Piszcz and Watson adding 11 apiece for Birmingham.
