James Birkinshaw is the latest rider to suffer in Birmingham Brummies' injury-plagued season. Birkinshaw was injured in a crash during the Brummies' Premier Trophy final meeting against Edinburgh. He has been ruled out of the Jack Young Shield quarter-final first leg against Berwick at Perry Barr on Wednesday. The Brummies have brought back their former rider Lee Smart as guest in place of Birkinshaw, while Krister Jacobsen stands in for Jack Roberts. Birmingham manager Graham Drury said: "I believe we need a lead in the region of 10 points and we need all our fans to get behind us on Wednesday."
