Captain Chris Harris led by example with a 16-point haul |
Coventry Bees brought their losing run to an end in style as they beat Elite League title hopefuls Swindon 52-41 to leapfrog their way off the bottom. After six straight defeats, a seventh looked on the cards when they trailed 21-9 after six heats at Brandon. But, inspired by a 16-point haul from Chris Harris, the reigning champions roared back to claim a much-needed win. Ben Barker had a paid 15, while Billy Janniro weighed in with seven points on his return to a full-strength team. Only Stan Burza (back) was missing from a Coventry side whose hopes of reclaiming their title have been wrecked first by the early season weather and latterly by injuries. Leigh Adams (11) top scored for second-placed Swindon, who missed their chance to return to the top of the league. Coventry's next meeting is not until Monday week (21 July) when they host Lakeside Hammers. But there is action at Brandon this Monday night (14 July) when Coventry host the World Cup.
