Camier clinched the title by winning race one at Silverstone |
Ashford's Leon Camier has won the British Superbike Championship for the first time in his career. The Airways Yamaha rider beat nearest rival James Ellison in the first race at Silverstone to clinch the title with three races to spare. Camier led the championship from the first weekend of the season but never took the win for granted. He told BBC Radio Kent: "I've never assumed I would win it. Such a relief and a dream come true. "It's been getting closer. It was a really hard fought race. James Ellison rode a really good race and I had to ride really hard to get past him so to beat him was a really good way to do it. Such a relief that it's done and a dream come true. A perfect way to finish the season as such, awesome feeling "I've seen riders lead the championship by 100 points and you could fall off, break your leg and lose the championship so a relief. "I've got another meeting yet at Olton Park but to relax and have a bit of time off will be cool."
