Kirkby-on-Bain racer Steve Plater has been given a last-minute call-up to compete in Sunday's World Supersport Championship round at Brands Hatch.

Plater, who rides a Yamaha in the British series, will race a Triumph for the Italian BE1 team, deputising for the injured Ivan Clementi.

Team manager Giuliano Rovelli said: "We needed a high-profile rider and think Steve is the right man for the job.

"He is brave and aggressive and popular with the fans."

Plater admitted: "It's been a while since I rode a Triumph, back in the early days of my racing career, but I'm a quick learner and will soon get to grips with the bike and am eager to put it through its paces.

"Brands Hatch is one of my favourite circuits, and as we race there twice each year in the British series I don't have to worry about learning the circuit so can concentrate on becoming familiar with the bike."

Also in the race will be Ruskington's Rob Frost, who is competing as a wildcard rider on the Buff Racing Triumph, while Lincolnshire will also be represented in the European Superstock 1000 race by Peter Hickman from Alford who is also racing as a wildcard, and European Superstock 600 regulars, Lincoln twins Sam and Alex Lowes.
