Wright does not think large points deductions are good for the league
Lincoln City chairman Steff Wright is confident that their opening game of the season at Rotherham United on 9 August will go ahead as planned.
Speculation is mounting that Rotherham will be punished by the Football League, and perhaps expelled, for breaching its administration rules.
Wright told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "I expect everything to be resolved and the season to kick off as planned.
"I don't want to see them go out of the league or their fans lose their club."
The Millers could find themselves in a similar situation to Luton Town, who will begin the League Two season on minus 30 points, but Wright feels such punishments have a negative effect.
He said: "I think for clubs to start the season where it's unlikely they'll do anything other than be relegated takes away the integrity of the competition.
"However clubs need to be punished for financial misdemeanours because if they continue to overspend and gain an unfair advantage from it, that in itself creates an imbalance."
