Wilson heads the British Supersport standings after the opening round

Boston's Ben Wilson took victory in the opening race of the British Supersport championship at Brands Hatch.

The Gearlink Kawasaki rider, who tops the standings after round one, also led much of race two but had to settle for fourth behind winner Alistair Seeley.

Woodhall Spa's Steve Plater was fifth in race one and third in race two for Padgetts Honda.

Shane Byrne, on his debut for Louth's HM Plant Honda team, won the opening superbike race of the season.

The 2003 champion, back in BSB after a spell in World Superbikes, finished third in race two behind Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill and Byrne's Honda team-mate, defending champion Ryuichi Kiyonari who had retired from the first race with mechanical problems.

Louth's Peter Hickman finished 13th and ninth in his first races for Tyco Honda, while Lincoln's Alex Lowes claimed a brace of 12th-placed finishes on the WFR Honda, taking victory in the Evo Class in race two.
