Poole Pirates are in talks with former world under-21 champion Rafal Dobrucki.

The Polish rider, who was with Oxford in 2004, will sit an English test this week in order to obtain a work permit.

Pirates chief Matt Ford said: "Talks have been under way with Rafal and we have effectively agreed terms although nothing has been signed yet.

"Rafal had concerns over committing to a full British season after a hectic time in 2004 but I'm delighted he feels that he can fulfil a full term."

Poole's Russian target Renat Gafurov will also have to sit a language test later this week while Kyle Newman has been handed a doubling-up position for next season.
