King's Lynn Stars boss hails Lasse Bjerre potential

King's Lynn Stars operations manager Jonathan Chapman has tipped youngster Lasse Bjerre to become a world beater.

The Dane, 17, will be loaned to the Stars by his new club Peterborough Panthers next season after riding in Norfolk for much of the last campaign.

Chapman told BBC Radio Norfolk: "He has that potential and will probably end up one of the top riders in the world.

"We've only seen one other rider who's got that much natural talent within the last few years and that's Darcy Ward."

Australian Ward, 18, started his English speedway career at King's Lynn and went on to become the 2009 Under-21 World Champion and currently rides for Elite League side Poole Pirates.

Bjerre established himself as one of the Premier League's top performers last season after joining King's Lynn in August, scoring 71 points in 11 meetings.

The deal we did with him reflected that he would be open and free to sign for whatever club he wanted

And while he will feature at the Norfolk Arena in 2011 it will be as a Peterborough asset, after he agreed to join brother Kenneth at the Elite League outfit.

"He wasn't sure if he'd become a full King's Lynn or Peterborough asset," Chapman added.

"The deal we did with him reflected that he would be open and free to sign for whatever club he wanted.

"In the end he's decided to sign for Peterborough, alongside his brother, but will ride for King's Lynn next year as a loan rider."
