The Isle of Man team celebrate after winning the Celtic Match
The Manx team stormed to victory in the annual Celtic Match held on home soil at the weekend. The traditional finale to the racing year saw the Isle of Man win one solo and both sidecar races to take a convincing overall victory. The Manx team finished 81 points ahead of Scotland in the solos and 22 points ahead in the sidecar races. Manx Celtic team manager Helen Gibson said: "It was a great weekend of racing in the true spirit of the sport." Wales finished third in both events. Gibson added: "It has been a mixed year for Manx racers. Dan Kneen claimed victory in the first solo race |
"Si (Fulton), Jonny (Heginbotham) and Tim (Venables) all won Manx Grand Prix titles but Tim is still in Nobles after his crash. "He would have been in the team and I think the lads all did him proud. "He was an honorary member and I hope will soon be able to wear his shirt with pride." In the solo races, British Supersport Cup runner-up Dan Kneen won the opening race from Scotland's Tony Czyzewski. Kneen was also in contention for the second solo race before a fault caused him to stop. The 23-year-old fought his way back to eighth with Scotland's Michael Robertson taking the victory again from Czyzewski. Kneen said: "It's nice to ride for the island and it's always nice to win." In the sidecars Simon Neary and Dips Chauhan won both races with team-mates Glyn Jones and Richard Murphy pushing them all the way.
