Lyon's Stars beat Rye House in the 2005 Young Shield final |
King's Lynn boss Rob Lyon admitted his side were off the pace despite an eight-point win over Rye House in their Young Shield quarter-final first leg. The 49-41 victory was the Stars' first outing for over two weeks. Lyon told BBC Radio Norfolk: "The boys were a little rusty but it's the same for both sides, the majority of the Rye House riders haven't been riding. "We didn't have the sharpness from the start but fair play to Rye House, they came and had a go at us." Captain Tomas Topinka top-scored for the hosts with paid 15 as Lynn dug deep in the later stages of the meeting to secure a cushion ahead of Sunday's return leg. But the Stars' eight-point advantage was smaller than Lyon had hoped for. "We were looking for 10-plus ideally and fell short of that," he said. "We have to go there and defend that lead and try and get through. "We go well around Rye House traditionally, we've got the riders in the team to turn it on around there so we still feel confident we can pull it off."
