Championship footballer Chris Martin denied assault when he appeared before magistrates in Norfolk.
The 21-year-old Norwich City striker, from Beccles in Suffolk, denied assaulting Tony Hawthorne on 29 August in Morley St Peter, Norfolk.
Mr Martin, who played for England at under-19 level and was signed by Luton Town, spoke only to enter a not guilty plea and give personal details.
The court hearing in Swaffham was adjourned until 19 October.
The footballer was released on conditional bail.
