Rob Lyon is hopeful King's Lynn Stars fans will bear with his side as they go through a rebuilding process.

The Stars boss looked on as his team lost 48-45 to the Somerset Rebels at the Norfolk Arena on Wednesday.

He told BBC Radio Norfolk: "A lot of clubs would give their right arm for what we've achieved the last few years.

"I'd like to think they can bear with us, hopefully in September we'll be a lot stronger and we can finish the season on a high."

Last season's Premier League champions have been hindered by the the sport's averages system and have turned to youngsters late on in a frustrating campaign.

"We've had a lot of success in my time here and you can't win every single year," added Lyon.

"The points limit dictates what you can and can't do and it hasn't worked for us this year."

Meanwhile rider Kozza Smith has backed youngster Jake Knight to come good.

Knight, a 17-year-old youth product, failed to register a point in his debut against the Rebels.

"You have to take your hat off to Jake, I think he held his own," said Australian Smith.

"Hopefully they'll be able to get a little bit more at the bottom end and strengthen us up a bit."

Lynn are next in action at home to Birmingham on Wednesday.
