Lowes has had five top-three finishes from six races this season

Lincoln's Sam Lowes will appear as a wildcard in August's World Supersport Championship round at Silverstone with the GNS Racing Honda team.

In 2009, the 19-year-old contested the final five rounds of the series with the Echo-CRS Honda outfit.

He has a 15-point lead at the halfway stage of the British Supersport championship with two wins this season.

He said: "It's a brilliant opportunity to test myself against the world's best Supersport racers."

But Lowes insisted his main aim was the British title.

He added: "Whilst this is a nice distraction, I remain fully focused on winning the British Supersport Championship for my team and sponsors this year, as it's thanks to them that I'm in this great position."

The race at Silverstone, round 10 of the World Supersport Championship, is on Sunday, 1 August.
