Leon Haslam extended his lead at the top of the Superbike World Championship with a win and a third-place finish in the sixth round in South Africa. The Derbyshire man placed third behind Michel Fabrizio and Carlos Checa in the opening race at Kyalami on Sunday. But Alstare Suzuki rider Haslam showed great composure to win the second race to move to 222 points at the top of the standings, 15 ahead of Max Biaggi. "To get the win is fantastic and a real bonus," Haslam said on his own website. "It was a tough, tough race from a concentration point of view and when the opportunity to get the lead came along I just grabbed it." He added: "I made a good start to the first race but just couldn't get in front of James Toseland for third. "When I finally did I was left with a pretty lonely third place. Both Fabrizio and Checa had got away while I was trying my best to get in front of Toseland. The little bit of front end suspension chatter that appeared on Saturday was still evident but I managed OK with it." Haslam has 222 points to Biaggi's 207, with Carlos Checa and Jonathan Rea joint third on 141. The next round is in Salt Lake City, United States on 31 May.
