Davies also won the New Zealand Women's Open in February |
Laura Davies clinched her 74th career win and 40th on the Ladies European Tour with victory at the German Open. The 46-year-old came from nine shots adrift at half way to win by two from fellow Briton Melissa Reid in Munich. Davies fired a closing four-under-par 68 to end 11 under as Reid shot 73 to finish one clear of third-round leader Ashleigh Simon of South Africa (75). "I love playing courses which allow me to have fun and use my driver and cut some corners," said Davies. "This is built for me. I think the architect had me in mind." The four-time major champion started the day four shots behind Simon, but credited her lack of bogeys for the win. She added: "I had four birdies and I didn't have a bogey on the weekend and that's always a good thing." The victory was Davies's second of 2010 after she clinched the New Zealand Women's Open in February to become the Tour's oldest ever winner.
