Eugene Laverty secured a second straight win in the World Supersport series with victory at Monza on Sunday.

The Parkalgar Honda rider from Toomebridge led from start to finish and won by 2.8 seconds from Kenan Sofuoglu with Joan Lascorz third.

Laverty remains third in the standings although he is now just 10 points behind leader Lascorz.

It was a miserable day for Ballyclare's Jonathan Rea, who failed to finish in both World Superbike races.

Max Biaggi won the opener with James Toseland second and Carl Crutchlow third.

Rea moved up from 13th to third but his hopes of a podium place ended when he crashed out.

Biaggi also won the second race followed by Leon Haslam and Troy Corser.

Laverty was delighted to secure successive victories in the Supersports.

"I led into the first corner - I was able to brake late and pass the other two," said Laverty after his success.

"Then I tried to make a break and read my pit board to control the gap. I was using my rear brake a little too much and cooked it so the oil boiled over and was on my boot towards the end.

"Kenan in second place kept me honest but it is great to get this win - my first back to back victories."
