Ipswich Witches begin track widening at Foxhall Stadium
Witches officials hope to encourage more passing on the new track
The Ipswich Witches have begun work on widening the speedway track at Foxhall Stadium in an attempt to improve the quality of racing.
Initial works are due to take around two weeks with the shale being laid on the surface once the weather improves.
Witches manager Chris Louis told BBC Suffolk: "We've taken the inside line in and effectively it will be a smaller track, but it'll ride and feel bigger."
Ipswich's first meeting is due to be a challenge against Lakeside on 18 March.
And Louis is hopeful that the new racing surface will be able to be put in place later this month.
He said: "If the snow stays away we can deal with the frost at this point in the operation.
"When it comes to laying the track surface we will have to wait for a window for that. I'm told by the long-range forecast that will be from the middle to the end of January.
"If that happens we'll get the track down, it will have time to settle and it'll be good."
