Workington Comets captain Andre Compton has paid tribute to the hunger of his team-mates in Sunday's Jack Young Shield victory against Rye House.
Comets retained the trophy in a close-fought 97-92 aggregate win that came with a late flourish at Derwent Park.
"We wanted to retain the silverware for Workington, so everyone put in a little extra," Compton told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"Historically, we've started off slow and come good at the end and tonight was no exception."
For Compton the triumph was made sweeter by the fact he put off retirement to take on a ride for the Comets at the end of last season after four seasons of a second spell at Sheffield Tigers.
And the Dewsbury-born 32-year-old is keeping his options open until a concrete offer arises.
"I'll definitely be riding, but I think everybody now just wants to get to the end of the season," he added.
"Probably next week and the next couple of weeks the phone will be ringing, we'll see what the offers are and take it from there."
Compton has ridden for a host of clubs at Elite League and Premier League levels including Poole Pirates, Coventry Bees and the now defunct Hull Vikings.
