Stoke Potters are out of the Young Shield after losing the second leg of their semi-final against Workington 54-36 at Derwent Park on Sunday. The Comets prevailed 93-75 on aggregate following the drawn meeting between the teams at Loomer Road on Saturday. The Potters, who have failed to win away from home in 2009, were huge underdogs going into the second leg. They led by two points after eight heats, but Workington powered back late on to gain a comfortable victory. The Potters were left frustrated by a power failure after 13 heats of their home leg, as they had hoped to build an big advantage going into the second leg. The scores were locked at 39-39 when their Loomer Road stadium was plunged into darkness.
